Community Service
The staff includes qualified jurists who can give answers in Arabic, English, Urdu and Gujarati. Queries are taken by email, letter or telephone. All correspondence is kept strictly confidential.
Overview
This institute, realising the need of the local and international community, develops students beyond the 6-year Alim course with an additional year in which they specialise in Islamic jurisprudence. This year is designed to give graduated students practice in Ifta — the issuing of Islamic legal rulings.
The Iftaa course equips students with the knowledge and skills required to issue informed verdicts rooted in Islamic tradition. Along with studying specialised texts with experienced Muftis, the main focus is to give students real-life practice and experience of answering day-to-day issues within the community.
Students participate in real-life case studies, issuing fatawa under supervision, developing the confidence and competence to be responsible scholars, and working in collaboration with other institutes, organisations and personalities to enrich their experience.
Structure

A focused one-year post-graduate programme building on the Aalimiyah course
175
Students must complete 175 fatawa, including 150 supervised and 25 external questions
Practical Work
Successful completion of 175 fatawa, 3 research assignments (minimum 1,000 words each with viva), and 3 seminar presentations.
Examinations & Conduct
Two sets of examinations with a minimum pass mark of 80%, along with excellent attendance (95%+) and punctuality throughout the year.
Students dedicate approximately 6 hours daily to study and research alongside structured class hours from 8:00am to 12:15pm, with independent study and research in the afternoon and evening.

Taharah, Salaah, Zakaah, Sawm and Hajj
Nikah, Talaq and women’s issues
Trade, contemporary commerce and financial dealings
Islamic laws of succession and estate division
Principles of issuing fatawa and the methodology of the Hanafi school
Syllabus
The syllabus includes specific chapters from key classical and contemporary texts, studied under the guidance of experienced Muftis. Students also undertake extensive independent reading from major fatawa collections.
Beyond the Classroom
Approximately two external workshops or trainings are offered per term, covering a range of real-world topics that a Mufti may encounter in community service.

Causes, symptoms, conventional and religious remedies, dispute resolution, and available services
Contemporary business modes, inheritance and family law with legal professionals, accountancy and charity law
Academic writing, referencing, oratory and effective communication, media engagement and practical Janazah training
